Hypnotherapy to help you manage stress better

Sometimes it can seem like our days (and nights) are brimming with opportunities to get stressed out. Whether you're having a difficult time at work, or you're concerned about your health, money, your kids, or your relationship, every area of our life can potentially contribute to our stress levels.

And our responses to these stresses often make things worse, as we find it challenging to do the things that keep us calm and healthy, like getting enough sleep and exercise, eating properly, and relaxing regularly.

What you think and feel about your experiences either reduces your body's stress response (Take a deep breath. I can handle this), or it increases your stress (This is terrible! I can't....), with predictable effects on your body, mind and emotions. And if your system isn't allowed to recover from bouts of negative emotion and its effects, it can make a range of conditions more likely eg heart disease, hypertension, peptic ulcer, migraines, skin disorders, depression, addictions and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

How hypnotherapy can help with stress management

Hypnotherapy is a very effective way to help yourself become more mentally and physically calm and confident, whatever your current levels of stress. Hypnotherapy helps you take control of your own mind, feelings and body, and create a foundation of calm, confidence and relaxation to rely on. You will also learn self-hypnosis, so you can maintain the changes you make in hypnotherapy sessions over time.

From this foundation of calm relaxation, hypnotherapy can also help you make positive changes to your thinking and behaviour, nutrition, exercise and relaxation. The goal is for you to be able to take control of your stress at any point, so you can:

  • prevent/avoid a negative stress response in the first place by adjusting your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and responses
  • deflect or take control of your response in the moment; for example, by consciously relaxing your body and slowing your breathing down
  • get rid of the impact of stress afterward a stressful experience

...Sian's supportive and non-judgemental manner during the sessions enabled me to work out what I wanted and increased my confidence that I could achieve it. I now have a job which provides the ideal work/family balance. And the self-hypnosis continues to help me relax and stay focused whenever things get a bit stressful...
